In the early 1870’s, a
Methodist minister was passing through the area
on the stagecoach. When he learned that there
was no Methodist Church established, he
volunteered to lead services.
Since that day, many
changes have taken place in the life of this
church. In 1919, the German Methodist Church
was closed, but by 1921, a new church, Rice Lake
Methodist Church, was born. A building was
constructed and a cemetery plotted on Birch
Street.
The church thrived there
until it outgrew its space in the mid 50’s.
Built with considerable volunteer labor, a new
church was opened in 1959 near 35W and Lake
Drive. This new building, built originally as
educational space, served the congregation well
until 1991, when the church moved into its new,
modern facility about ½ mile south of their old
location.
Future plans for the church
include the addition of an education wing. |
